More Fun on The Nature Trail

Digital Photography
I have really enjoyed the local nature trail this fall. The DelMarVa Discovery Center is sponsoring a nature trail photography contest. These are a few I did not enter into the competition. I really like them but the photos are supposed to capture the essence of the trail and there were others I thought were a better representation of the theme. You can click on the images for a better view. What do you think of this self portrait?? : )

Hosting the American Robin

Digital Photography

Digital Photography

Digital Photography
I admit it...I am a birdwatcher! My studio has two large windows in it facing our backyard. My camera is generally mounted on my tripod at the window with the best view of the backyard and bird feeders. I have several feeders and enjoy hosting and photographing my visitors. There have always been robins in the area but never near the feeders, much to my dismay. However, suddenly they descended this weekend upon the two berry producing trees near the feeders. They were frantic in their sudden pursuit of the new found treats. Their gluttony was fascinating to watch. I got some nice shots and am sharing them with you today. Click on the image for an enlarged view. If you haven't already, click on the box on the top right side of my blog to subscribe if you'd like to get my latest posts in your inbox. I hope you enjoy the shots!

Commissioned Digital Artwork - Porsche 914

Digital Artwork - Commissioned

I guess it's pretty obvious that we are Porsche enthusiasts. We are members of PCA (Potomac Region) and several online groups. This client from one of my groups, emailed me a digital photo of his 914 which was parked in his driveway. It was fun to work on because the car is similar to ours. It was an excellent candidate for digital artwork as the quality was sufficient for my purposes. However, the neighborhood houses did not present a suitable background for the artwork. I placed his car on a background that had an interesting horizon in the distance and a very dramatic sky. Then I proceeded to create the art from that composition. I'm happy to say that my client loved the results. Click on the image for a better view.

Digital Art - An Explanation

Since I have been posting my digital artwork, several people have emailed me about what it actually is. I thought since I've had several enquiries, I'd post a before and after image. So here goes!

This is the ho-hum "before" photo
Some may recognize this reference photo from a painting I did last year.

This is the digital art created from the photo

As you can see, the "before photo" was a nice but standard photograph taken on a back road with little in the way of interesting background. The digital artwork I created from the photo shows off the vintage Porsche beautifully against a vivid background. Most of the elements in the photo were used but I removed some of the telephone and electric poles and created more visual contrast. This is perfect for enlarging and framing as a photo or making into a large poster. If you're looking for the perfect and very personal Christmas gift, I happen to have special pricing for the holidays. Digital art is very affordable and can be created from photos of all kinds of subjects as you can see from other posts on this blog. I'd be happy to email you the info. Just click here.

Local Architecture in Digital Artwork

Digital Art - St. James Farm

Digital Art - Abandoned Farm

Digital Art - Pitts Creek Presbyterian Church

Some examples of what I can do with everyday digital photographs. Enhancing and digitally altering them can turn the commonplace photo into a beautiful, dynamic image. These buildings are all so interesing architecturally that I wanted to interpret them artistically. I hope you like them! Click on them for a larger image.

Digital Artworks ~ by Doris Glovier

Digital Art - Annapolis in August - Original Photography by Emily Glovier
What a wonderful place for a couple or a family to visit.
Annapolis features so much to do and see!

Digital Art - Lunch at The Atlantic Hotel

What a lovely way to spend the afternoon! Lunch at the Atlantic Hotel front porch on a balmy September afternoon is a nice way to catch up with a friend. A delicious salad and warm crusty bread along with a nice glass of Shiraz is sure to set the tone for a wonderful visit! This artwork was among several that I have currently hanging at The Globe Theater's Balcony Gallery in Berlin, MD. I'm happy to say it has been sold and has a new home!

Check out the Globe's website. I am featured in the artist section!

Digital art created from your photograph or mine makes a wonderful, personal gift for the holiday. I'd be happy to create one for you! Click the image for a closer view.

Nature Trail

These shots were all taken earlier this week along the Pocomoke Nature Trail with the forest and river as a backdrop. The autumn leaves were past their prime but there were still some beautiful colors to see. Hope you enjoy this up close and personal experience with nature! Summer Florals

I adore photographing nature and my artist's eye cannot resist shooting the most glorious of mother nature's colorful creations. Flowers are pleasing in so many ways. They are certainly beautiful to behold and are most often delightful to smell. My neighbors often find me hovering over their flower beds with my camera focused on whatever is currently blooming in their yard. There is an added bonus in a couple of these too! I hope you enjoy viewing these as much as I did photographing them! Clicking on the images will enlarge them for a closer view.

Dockside Gulls

This day was extremely hot. It was August, in the middle of a 95 degree day with 90% humidity. The gulls that congregate on one of the docks that I frequent were irritable and obviously suffering from the unbearable heat. Most of them were perched quietly with their mouths gaped open, like the poor guy below, but these two were fighting over the spot on this post. They looked exactly how I felt that day...miserable! Click on the images for a better view.

What a difference the weather makes!

This was a beautiful crisp February Day. As you can see these guys look quite comfortable under these conditions. It had snowed overnight but was warming up nicely. What a difference in their demeanor! Gulls fascinate me so you will be seeing more of them in future posts.

Eastern Shore Wildlife

I am fascinated by birds and other wildlife so, as often as possible, I try to photograph them. I have collected quite a number of nice shots. I hope you enjoy these images. As always, you can click on them to enlarge them for detail.

Ducks & Geese by the Pocomoke River
These guys congregate on the river bank and are quite sociable.
They truly fascinate me so you will be seeing lots of them!

Great White Egret of Assateague Island
The largest egret in North and Central America. A member of the heron family, this beautiful bird ranges in length from 33-40 inches with a wingspan of 4 ½ feet.

Oh the Memories of Summer!

Yes, I am still grappling with the gruesome reality that summer is over! Here are a few digital art images of some highlights. I hope you enjoy them. They were certainly fun to create!

Fun on the River

OK, so I guess I have no choice but to somehow embrace the other seasons. As my mama always said, "You have to take the bad with the good in life!". Now let's see...where's that camera? I see some beautiful autumn colors our my window...... : )
Thanks for checking out my photo blog!!

"Looking Through My Lens" is Launched

The transition is complete! This blog will now feature my photography and digital art. I hope you will enjoy looking a little more closely at the world as I see it through my camera lens. Future posts will include my photography and digital artwork as I focus my lens on my favorite subjects - the coastal areas, landscapes, wildlife and people of the Eastern Shore. I do occasionally travel away from this land of pleasant living so I'll take you along (a virtual trip, of course!) as I focus in on the interesting sites and people I encounter along the way.
If you want to continue to receive my latest watercolor and oil paintings in your email, click here to go to my painting blog, Doris Glovier Studio and, if you have not already done so, at the top, right of the page, you can subscribe to receive new paintings & posts in your email. If you have any questions or need assistance click here to email me. Thanks for checking in!
